The math department
administered a pre-test and a post-test
on CAHSEE and STAR Vocabulary. There
were 45 terms that the students will
need to know for these important state
exams. The pre-test was given during the
first week of March and the post-test
was administered during the first week
of April. The math department showed an
increase of 10.4% from the pre-test to
the post-test. This was completed during
a difficult time period due to the
CAHSEE test and the 3rd Quarter
Benchmark Exams.

I learned quite a bit from some
of the classes that I observed. The
vocabulary was reinforced in warm-ups,
cooperative group activities, class
discussions, and end of the period
wrap-ups. Kudos to the teachers that
used their walls to review and emphasize
content vocabulary. Great Wall to Wall
and Bell to Bell teaching/learning!

Comments from Foreign Language Teachers:
Ms. Rozo:
I would like to add that when I
initially did the Pre-test, I was
skeptical. But when I included the
students and told them that it was to
test their ability to retain information
and their “brain potential”, they became
involved and excited. I plan to use this
pre-test and post test for all my future
vocabulary lessons/chapters.
This exercise also helped my EL
students learn the words in both English
and Spanish.
Mrs.Meza:
I motivated my students by allowing them
to re-take the test (post test) so that
they could improve their score, most of
them that did not get a hundred percent
the first time improved during the post
test.

Gloria Meza's walk-through
observations:
I had
a great time doing the CWTs. Observing
teachers within my department and other
departments was a great experience. I
was able to gather some ideas for my own
classroom and even see some of my
students with other teachers. Thanks to
all who participated.
